A new webcast class series at Hayagriva Dharma Center, “Essential Points of the Path,” has begun and will run through September on most Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Check www.hayagrivahilo.org or email or call to confirm dates.

The classes are being taught by Pailin Young on “The Essential Points of the Path.” They are based on classes taught by Lama Namnang Mingjo Dorje Rinpoche from 2010 to 2011. This series included teachings on fundamental principles of Buddhism such as the Four Noble Truths, karma (cause and effect), Buddha’s teachings on birth and rebirth, interdependence and emptiness.

Classes also included Buddhist history, life stories of the Buddha and many famous practitioners, an introduction to the nature of mind, the different stages of the path to enlightenment and more.

“The purpose of this extensive series was for students to understand how Buddhist teachings have the ability to help transform and improve their daily lives,” said center spokeswoman Kathy Ohara. “If students develop the proper attitude, wishing to transform themselves, and an understanding of how to accomplish this, Buddhist practices can then help them accomplish their spiritual goals.”

Young is the rinpoche’s translator, principal attendant and teaching assistant. She will be guiding the review and discussions by webcast. Classes will include viewing of segments of the original class DVDs, summaries and discussions. This series is for students of all levels, and people brand new to Buddhism are encouraged to attend at any time during the series. Classes are free. Donations are accepted.
